How we work
At the core of our approach to therapy is a belief that all parts of you deserve attention and healing.
Cairn Wellness Center is a collective of licensed mental health therapists, licensure candidates, and interns providing accessible and affordable counseling. Our counselors have been trained in a variety of modalities and interventions including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems Therapy, EMDR, Trauma-Focused CBT, Solution-Focused Therapy, Attachment, Psychodynamic Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and more.
We do not assign clients based on who has availability, but instead help connect you with the therapist who is best suited to help you. Our clinicians also have training in working with the needs of diverse clients, including concerns related to faith, gender, race and ethnicity, age, and physical health issues. Each of our clinicians engages in ongoing continuing education to ensure we are providing the most up-to-date and effective therapy for your specific needs.
Our office is committed to providing quality mental health care to our community while keeping our Christian values at the core of what we do. While we do offer Christian counseling, we allow the client to determine the direction of how faith is brought into counseling. We work with a diverse community, and it is our responsibility and commitment to provide all of our clients with a safe environment to heal and grow.
HOLISTIC APPROACH
At cairn wellness center, we treat all aspects of each person’s mental health including their
emotional, relational, spiritual, and physical wellbeing
-
EMOTIONAL
We often want to ignore or numb our emotions, rather than identify, soothe, and manage them. Our therapists help you to name and regulate your feelings which has a positive impact on your mental health.
-
RELATIONAL
We were not created to be alone. All of your relationships, with your partner, children,
family, friends, and coworkers, have an impact on your mental health, making it a priority in your treatment. -
SPIRITUAL
Many struggles clients experience center around existential beliefs, making spirituality a vital part of one’s health. Whatever your beliefs our therapists value exploration of spirituality as part of your mental health.
-
PHYSICAL
We continue to learn more and more about the impact of diet and exercise on our mental health. Genetics, illness, substance use, and even gut health can impact a client’s mental health treatment.
Our Guiding Principles
FAITH
Faith has always been the motivation for Cairn Wellness Center’s founder, Shae Gregston, MS, LPC, LMFT as a counselor. This serves as a guiding principle for the therapists at Cairn Wellness Center as we value the perspective and experience of people from different faiths and backgrounds. Our therapists provide sensitive and tailored counseling for requests of Christ-centered counseling, counseling of other faiths, and those who are non-faith-focused. We are committed to the Peace Prayer as we work with each client.
RESPECT
We value and respect differences between each person who walks through the doors of our offices. Out of respect for the uniqueness of each client, Cairn Wellness Center’s therapists will work with clients to develop a specialized treatment plan for their specific needs while offering support by utilizing the training, skills, and expertise developed by the therapists.
COMPASSION
Compassion is defined simply as “concern for the sufferings of others.” At Cairn Wellness Center, one of our goals is to understand the needs and priorities of others. Our therapists work to build rapport with each client using active listening, reflective listening, and empathy to leave each client feeling seen and understood, receiving compassion from the therapist for the suffering they are in. Healing can happen in a restorative relationship formed in the therapy room with compassion at the forefront.
LIFELONG LEARNING
As a training site for new clinicians, we are often asked, “How long til I know everything?” In the field of psychotherapy, we believe that the best therapists are the ones to engage in the principle of lifelong learning. Licensed therapists are required to get 20 hours a year of continuing education to stay on top of the newest evidence-based interventions and treatments. Our clinicians receive advanced training in their areas of specialty to make sure our clients are receiving the most effective treatment.
He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. For the more we suffer for Christ, the more God will shower us with his comfort through Christ.
2 Corinthians 1:4-5
HEre’s what we believe about therapy:
This isn't about becoming someone "different."
Therapy is about becoming a truer version of yourself. We believe you already have what it takes to build the life and relationships you desire. Our Integrative approach to therapy is to help you identify patterns that help keep you stuck, making small changes to create significant outcomes. This could be addressing a lack of boundaries, adjusting communication, or identifying relational patterns that you have some power to change.
The best investment you can make is in yourself.
Have you heard that you can’t pour from an empty cup? When you invest in your own healing, it empowers you to improve your image of yourself, growing your confidence, and helping you to adapt to life changes. Learning to identify and prioritize your own needs, provide safety from what hurts you, and manage your feelings and triggers, can also improve interactions in your interpersonal and romantic relationships.
You are deserving of healthy, loving relationships.
Sometimes we only need minor adjustments for our relationships to be healthy and loving while other times we need more significant changes. In healthy relationships, partners respect each other without an imbalance of power. Trust, honesty, open communication, respect for each other’s differences, physical and emotional safety, and intimacy are all areas you can address in counseling.
