THERAPY FOR LIFE’S TRANSITIONS

Guiding you as you navigate the twists and turns
life presents.

It is scary to manage the uncertainty with big life changes.

Many of life’s commonly occurring events can be hard to adjust to. As we experience life changes such as divorce, leaving a long-standing job, reaching a certain age, dealing with a prolonged sickness or disability, or even moving to a new city; any of these dramatic changes can bring out big emotions for you and can take a long time to adjust to.

Sometimes, the changes can be seen as good, well-earned accomplishments and can still be anxiety-inducing. Getting married, starting a new career, retirement, or starting or finishing college, for example. Even these are major lifestyle changes and can require some adjustment period. Coping with and managing the uncertainty these lifestyle changes bring about, can be one of the hardest challenges you face. Often, uncertainty is a major factor in determining the degree and intensity to which you experience anxiety. Not knowing what will happen next can be terrifying. Learning to control what you can, and accepting the things that you cannot control, can be helpful in coping with fear and anxiety of the unknown.

We can help with:

  • Learning to find a new structure and routine after change

  • Managing uncertainty by identifying what you can control

  • Fear of failure or inadequacy to successfully transition to the next season in life

  • Finding healthy new connections to combat isolation and loneliness during change

  • Identify and challenge expectations that are leaving you feeling confused

No matter the type of change you experience, the one thing we all have in common is that we’ll ALL experience change at some point in our lives. It’s important for you to know that Cairn Wellness Center has therapists available, willing to help you manage these transitions in a healthy and successful way.

how WE can help

Find purpose for the issues that have arrived as part of transition

For those of you who are frightened by or consider change difficult, therapy intended for life transitions can teach you the coping mechanisms and management skills to help you navigate these uncertain times in your lives.

For others, change can be exciting. You just need someone to help evaluate yourself within the change and explore new paths and processes to get the most from life. You may just like to have an objective third party to give unbiased assessments and observations.

Accepting change is rarely easy, but it is inevitable and vital that you understand how to control the things that you can, and accept the things which we cannot. Your Cairn Wellness therapist can guide you to look at your life changes from a wider lens and see how all of the moving parts in your life are affected by change. Therapy can help one learn coping skills, and not only aid in managing current transitions, but also make us more prepared to handle future ones.

Common questions about therapy for life transitions

  • All change, even “good” change, can be hard. We want to guide you as you walk through the change you are experiencing, identifying specific losses along the way, and helping empower you with coping skills to have confidence as you walk through the constant changes life throws your way.

  • Life transitions can disrupt your sense of stability and predictability, which can be stressful and trigger feelings of anxiety and uncertainty. You may also experience a sense of loss or grief as you let go of old habits, relationships, and roles. This can be particularly challenging when you don’t have control over the changes, such as in the case of a job loss, a divorce, or a health diagnosis.

Transitions can also impact your self-esteem and sense of identity. You may question your ability to adapt to new circumstances, leading to feelings of inadequacy or self-doubt, which can affect your mental health.
