Do you desire…

Freedom from anxiety and feelings of disconnection?

Proper boundaries in relationships without guilt?

To value yourself and your own needs?

Understanding of your own past experiences and trauma?

Do you desire a deep sense of well-being, goodness, and peace but find those experiences are elusive? No matter how hard you try, you feel anxious, angry, disconnected from the people you love, distant from your own emotions, paralyzed, and exhausted with all the effort.

I help people improve their relationships with themselves, God, and other people by examining the patterns that keep us stuck. We are so close to our own experiences and feelings, that we often can’t see the full picture.  Working together, we can zoom out to see more clearly what is going on. When we do that, we find we have more options, more freedom, and more opportunity to flourish.

I don’t believe in quick fixes. But I do believe by examining the stories we tell ourselves - the ways we have come to understand how life works and doesn’t - we can begin to recognize why we experience life and relationships the way we do. We can begin to tell a truer story, and when we can do that, we begin to see we have far more options available to us to live wholeheartedly than we have known before. I create safe, spaces full of curiosity and warmth for adults one-on-one and in groups.

MY BACKGROUND AND APPROACH

I graduated from Southern Nazarene University with a Master of Arts in Counseling and have further trauma/related training from the Allender Center at the Seattle School of Theology and Psychology. I bring over 30 years of experience in the public and private sectors and a wealth of life and relationship experience to the counseling space. I welcome people of all faith backgrounds, or none, and enjoy bringing Christian faith into the conversation for those who share it.

While creating an individualized plan for clients, I see growth through Psychodynamic, Attachment, Narrative, Trauma-focused, and Relational lenses and utilize many of their interventions in therapy.

After therapy with me, my clients are aware of how their past experiences have formed their current patterns. They are able to recognize their triggers and choose an alternative response. Clients can recognize their emotions without becoming overwhelmed by them. My clients are better able to set appropriate boundaries in relationships without the guilt of letting someone down. They are willing to lean into relational conflict, when necessary while maintaining awareness of their own needs and desires. Overall, this leaves clients with a deep sense of peace, not that they will never experience triggers, but that they can handle it when they do.

Therapy with me is

  • Safe

Aiming to create an environment where you feel secure, understood, and free to express yourself without fear of judgment or repercussion.

  • Exploratory

Focusing on improving your ability to understand yourself and the origins of the issues you face in order to live a more rewarding life and have healthier relationships.

  • Authentic

I will be real, genuine, open, integrated, and authentic during our interactions together.

We all want to feel safe and supported in therapy and we also want to see change. I am experienced in working with clients to see the change they desire in their lives in a variety of issues. I focus my practice on working with adults, individually or in groups.

FAQs

  • In Oklahoma, Candidate for Licensure means that I have completed all my education and have passed all the testing required by the Board of Behavioral Health. I describe this similar to a resident in the medical field. All licensed professional therapists in the state of Oklahoma are required to gain 3000 hours of supervised experience before they are able to be considered licensed. I currently meet weekly with a licensed and Board approved supervisor to review my caseload.

  • As a candidate for licensure I do not file with insurance. My cash pay rate is $125 per session. I have some reserved spots for sliding scale fees for clients who may need it due to financial hardship.

  • I approach my clients with warmth and curiosity and seek to build emotional safety so they are able to share openly in ways they may not have freedom to do in other relationships. I often give clients writing assignments we process together, or we may explore current struggles or relational challenges. In every session, I aim to go beneath the surface stories to the dynamics and patterns at play. I firmly believe Dan Allender’s sentiment, “You can’t heal from what you do not name.” Often, we are so familiar with our own experiences, that we are blind to the patterns keeping us stuck.

I encourage clients to bring their full range of emotions to our time together. Tears, fears, anger, and laughter are all welcome.

  • I became a therapist after 30 years of working in the public and private sectors. My own life was experiencing upheaval for reasons I couldn’t understand, and my friend’s lives were too. I found myself wishing I understood better how to help myself and them. I also felt deeply unsettled in my career and wanted to spend my time with people in a more meaningful, embodied way. Not only did graduate school lead to a new career path, it led me to seek my own therapy. I don’t believe I can take people to places I am unwilling to go. The transition has been life-altering.

It’s your turn to get the help you deserve.
