For individuals with a particularly strong religious or spiritual belief system, this type of therapy can be very effective, allowing them a way to incorporate their religious beliefs into their therapy. This allows those with a strong connection to their faith, a safe and secure place to explore and grow in their personal spiritual journey.

Cairn Wellness Center therapists only incorporate faith-based therapy with traditional psychotherapy practice when specifically requested by our patients, so if you are looking for Christian or another form of spiritual counseling, please be sure to request this.

This can be a very effective way to address many different mental health issues unrelated to one’s spirituality, including anxiety, depression, or trauma.

Religious trauma therapy is based on the idea that some people develop unhealthy beliefs about God, or another higher power, because of traumatic events that occurred during childhood. These beliefs can cause them to feel guilty, ashamed, angry, depressed, and suicidal. This therapy aims to help people overcome these feelings by teaching them new ways of thinking about themselves and their faith.

  • Great question! While each clinician at Cairn Wellness has their own style, our clinicians want to work collaboratively with each client to make sure their values are the focus of each session. If you desire prayer with your clinician, please let them know!

  • It is our goal that you, as the client, would never know if that were the case. Our code of ethics says we can’t impose our values on any client, therefore your clinician will explore and dissect your own values and beliefs to see how they are impacting your life and your healing. We believe that even if a room of like-minded believers, we all tend to have differences in some of our beliefs. The purpose of therapy is to just focus on YOURS!
