TRAUMA THERAPY
Helping you overcome previous trauma and navigate with confidence into your future.
“Trauma is not what happens to us, but what we hold inside in the absence of an empathetic witness.”
– Dr. Bessel van der Kolk
Trauma is a deeply distressing or disturbing experience that overwhelms our ability to cope. Trauma can be experienced in obvious ways such as physical or sexual abuse, loss of a loved one, war, or natural disaster. However, other types of trauma can be less obvious, like psychological and emotional abuse, childhood neglect, a vehicle accident, or even sudden relationship break-ups. Often, we don’t recognize these events as being traumatic immediately, but they can leave an overwhelming long-term impact on how secure and safe we feel, how we view and interact within relationships, and our expectations of what our future should hold.
For some, the effects of trauma impact the way they function in relationships. They might struggle with setting appropriate boundaries, or have trouble communicating. They may be drawn to unhealthy or toxic relationships, or they may even struggle to maintain relationships with individuals who they don’t feel can understand what they’ve gone through. For others, trauma can create feelings of fear, anxiety, or panic, to the point that it harms their daily work and personal lives.
We can help with:
Healing the effects of physical, emotional, physiological, or sexual abuse
Managing emotions of anger, grief, or others that come as a result of trauma
Restoring hope for relationships after escaping violence or assault
Traumatic loss, injury, accidents, or natural disasters
In some cases, the existence of untreated trauma can make activities they once found enjoyable seem unsafe or may remind them of their trauma, causing them to pull back or disengage. Trauma Therapy is designed to guide you to a better understanding of how your traumatic experiences have and are impacting your life. Therapy can help you make sense of the trauma you experienced, and develop coping skills to respond to triggering events and memories. Therapy can help you identify a path to the self-confidence and well-being that you deserve.
