We believe EVERYONE can benefit from therapy since no one has it all together or the “perfect” life. Therapy is especially beneficial if you are experiencing:
Intense emotions that feel impossible to manage
The awareness you no longer feel like “yourself”
A significant event that has changed how you see yourself and/or the world around you
Disconnect and conflict in your relationships

You don’t…yet! There has to be a level of trust and safety between you and your therapist. While each of our clinicians will work to understand your specific needs and preferences, the best way to determine if your therapist is a good fit is to schedule a free 15-minute phone consultation. Clients can usually tell in one or two sessions if they believe they have found the right therapist for them.
We encourage clients to be honest about their experience in therapy. If your therapist has said or done something hurtful or upsetting, weask you to please bring it up in session so you can process the experience with the hopes of repair.
If it turns out one of our therapists is not the best therapist for you, we are happy to help you find another therapist from a list of referral sources who may be a better fit for you.

Each individual case and situation is unique so it is impossible to give an exact number. However, it is recommended to have a minimum of 10-12 sessions to see real progress. Your therapist will check in with you regularly to see how you feel about your progress and treatment with a willingness to collaborate about when you would like to end treatment.

While our therapists are trained in how to integrate faith and many were trained at Christian Universities, we will only integrate faith if it is in line with each client’s individual values.
We adhere to the ACA Code of Ethics which prevents therapists from imposing their own values on a client. Therefore, our therapists are trained to work with any client despite personal differences in values.

If you agree that one of the Cairn Wellness Center clinicians is right for you and agree on your first appointment, you will receive an email that allows you to create a Client Portal through Simple Practice. You are then able to complete all your new client paperwork online before your first meeting. This step allows you and your clinician to utilize the the time in your first session efficiently.

First, you can expect to feel a little (or a lot) anxious. This is common as you begin to enter into a new therapeutic relationship.
Your therapist will spend the first part of session reviewing the paperwork to make sure there is clarity on all office policies, setting a foundation of clear boundaries and expectations for both you and your therapist.
Then you can expect the rest of the first session to primarily include you sharing with your therapist so they can get to know you, your goals for change, and what you are hoping for in therapy.
The first couple of sessions may be spent with your therapist inquiring about many aspects of your life so far to gain a more holistic picture of what your life has been like so far. This is vital to growth as all of these parts of us impact our views, beliefs, feelings, and expectations in our lives now. -
Instead of doing your session in the typical therapy room, you and your counselor can walk outside on the walking trail behind our office. If medically appropriate for you, this modality can improve your mood by moving your body, spending time outside, and connecting with your body. There are additional waivers and limits to confidentiality that must be completed before entering this type of therapy. If you are interested, just discuss with your therapist.

Under the law, clinicians need to give patients who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services.
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.

If a client or family is dealing with challenges regarding sexuality or gender identity, our therapists will help that client, examine, and understand how their values and personal beliefs impact their view on sexuality and their gender identity.
Our therapists do not attempt to influence a client's sexuality or gender orientation, but instead, aid individuals and their families on their journey to understanding themselves in a way that can align how they identify and what they believe.
